Barley water is a healthy beverage and it is loaded with essential nutrients. It has essential minerals and antioxidants and vitamins like vitamin B-complex, iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, selenium, zinc and copper. The drink is extremely beneficial for kids. But, kids don’t prefer to drink boring barley water.
Today, I am sharing an amazing recipe which can be given as an evening drink to kids during summers. Even adults can enjoy this drink after a rigorous workout or they can be taken as a refreshing summer drink.
This recipe has all the goodness of Barley, you can prepare it in two ways i.e.sweet and savory version. This is the sweet version. The savory or salty version is also good and can be tweaked for variations!
I have used the whole barley seeds and then made powder of it. Barley powder is also available in stores. You can store the barley mix and use it later for other recipes.
To make the barely powder
- If you are planning to make barley powder, wash the seeds very well with cold water for 3-4 times and then drain.
- Air dry the seeds for 4-5 hours.
- Dry roast in a pan for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Grind the seeds and store it in an airtight glass container.
- This barley powder can be stored for 2-3 months, make sure you always use a fresh spoon.
Both the sweet and savory version are filled with flavor, but children usually love the sweet version where as my friends preferred the savory version of it. They were pleasantly surprised when they got to know this is barley water.
